It is both an honor and a privilege to introduce myself to a community that I deeply value and am committed to serving.
My name is Dr. James M. Thompson I, and I am an educator, leader, advocate, and ordained minister dedicated to ensuring that every voice is heard and every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
With a distinguished background in education, leadership, and community engagement, I have spent my career working to strengthen systems, empower individuals, and create meaningful pathways for success. I have served in various roles including educator, administrator, and higher education leader, where I have focused on improving outcomes, advancing equity, and building collaborative partnerships that benefit both students and communities.
I currently reside in District 11, where I remain actively engaged in efforts that uplift families, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for growth and development. My passion is rooted in service, leadership, and a commitment to making a lasting impact. I believe that strong communities are built through connection, collaboration, and a shared vision for the future.
My campaign is grounded in the principle:
“Every Voice Heard. Thriving Together!”
To me, this means ensuring that every resident feels seen, valued, and represented. It means creating spaces where voices are not only acknowledged but acted upon. It means building a community where we work together to remove barriers, support one another, and create opportunities so that everyone—not just a few—can succeed.
Beyond my professional journey, I am a proud family man. I am married to Dr. Danna Thompson, and together we are blessed with three wonderful children: Jamey, James II, and Jaley. Our home is also filled with joy and energy from our beloved pets—our cat Jax, and our two dogs, Tega (Golden Doodle, male) and Tessa (Boxer & Plott Hound, female).
Together, we can build a stronger, more connected Richland County Council District 11, where every voice matters, and every person has the opportunity to thrive.
